Calgary
Articling Student Programme
Hiring
The Calgary office hires 2-3 students for its Articling Programme.
Rotations/Student Experience
Our students are exposed to a wide variety of experiences during their articling year. Students are rotated two to three times a year among our solicitor and litigation departments. Our students are given the opportunity to, among other things, assist and accompany lawyers to discoveries, hearings, trials, mediations, commercial deal closings and client meetings.
Professional Development
In addition to various assignments for students, our office offers training in substantive law and other areas. Students are invited and encouraged to attend all student, as well as firm-wide, in-house continuing legal education seminars. Highlights of our continuing legal education programming include small claims procedures, drafting pleadings, managing files, mergers and acquisitions, tax and corporate, oil and gas, wills and estates, and a real estate law series.
Social Events
We encourage our students to participate in all aspects of firm life, including the firm’s social activities, such as the golf day and informal social get-togethers.
Mentoring
Students are paired with a partner, who acts as their principal and an associate, who acts as their mentor.
Feedback
We evaluate our students’ progress through a formal evaluation process, which occurs halfway and near the end of the articling year.
