London
Summer Student Programme
Hiring
Miller Thomson's London office hires one student who has completed his or her first or second year of law school for our summer programme.
Student Experience
Our summer programme allows our student to experience the working environment at our firm before starting the articling year. There is no formal rotation over the summer. Our student handles a variety of assignments, ranging from research, drafting documents and assisting with litigation and corporate transactions.
Our student is always welcome to join our lawyers and observe proceedings. Since we do not have a formal work allocation system, our student is encouraged to be entrepreneurial and to seek work and experiences of interest to him or her. In this way, our programme provides our student with a greater insight into Miller Thomson and the practice of law.
Members of the Student Committee are also on-hand to help our student through the summer.
Feedback
We encourage our student to take ownership of his or her work, and to seek feedback from the lawyers he or she is working with on a continuing basis.
Professional Development
In addition to various assignments our student will be engaged in, our office offers training in substantive law and practical skills-based training. Some highlights of our student continuing legal education programming include seminars on Small Claims Court proceedings, drafting pleadings, legal research, legal writing, motions, corporate services, litigation, professionalism, practice management and public speaking.
