We are looking for students who are ready to learn, interested in an immersive legal experience, and enjoy collaborative teamwork. We look for students who have strong academic performance, are committed to professional excellence, have a variety of interests, and are willing to take an active role in business development, community activities and firm promotion.
We understand law school sometimes doesn’t prepare you for everything you need to know about the practice of law, and that’s okay! We have developed a student program that will prepare you to step into legal practice once you graduate. We want to empower and equip you to become successful associates and, eventually, partners of our Firm – that starts with our program and your willingness to learn.
At Miller Thomson, you will learn the practice of law. We keep our client teams small so that our students get to work directly with experienced lawyers and truly learn how to become exceptional advisors and advocates.
We offer mentorship, development opportunities, and the opportunity to learn how to provide an exceptional client experience. Students are encouraged to seek out a variety of assignments with lawyers in all practice areas to gain greater insight into the areas of law that most interest them. We ensure our students get a front-row seat to our practice, business development initiatives, and broader firm culture. Our program helps you identify what you’re passionate about, and where you want to focus your interests and ensure you’re set up for growth and success.
At Miller Thomson LLP, inclusion and diversity are critical components of our vision, values and strategic plan.
As part of Miller Thomson’s commitment to support diversity and inclusion initiatives in the communities in which we live and work, and as part of our obligation to keep listening, learning and pressing for real progress on the road to achieving equality for all, Miller Thomson is proud to introduce a Diversity Scholarship Program.
We are proud to lead the way with our committal to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada‘s call to action to advance the reconciliation process. Our Indigenous Law Student Program is the first of its kind in the country.
Each of Miller Thomson’s offices hires first and/or second-year law students for our National Summer Program, depending on the office’s needs. Students who complete the Summer Program are a pipeline for our National Articling Student Program.
Students should review their relevant offices pages for information on timing and processes.
