Overview

Ryan Kitzul is a Partner in Miller Thomson’s Regina office. Ryan is a civil litigator with a strong interest and unique understanding of disputes in the Healthcare sector. Ryan was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in 2014 and the British Columbia Bar in 2019.

Ryan has acted for a broad range of clients in both the health care and insurance industries. His litigation experience is diverse and includes personal injury, medical negligence, privacy, property, professional liability and professional regulatory matters. Ryan is also an experienced commercial litigator, successfully representing both plaintiffs and defendants at all levels of court in Saskatchewan and the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.

Ryan has acted as counsel for health service providers across Saskatchewan. He has considerable experience working with The Health Information Protection Act, The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, The Health Care Directives and Substitute Health Care Decision Makers Act, The Adult Guardianship and Co-decision-making Act, The Public Guardian and Trustee Act and The Mental Health Services. Ryan also has a strong understanding of The Provincial Health Authority Act and works with health care organizations in interpreting and applying their respective practitioner staff bylaws and related legislation.

Ryan also has considerable experience working with The Automobile Accident Insurance Act including the No-Fault provisions under Part VIII. Ryan’s experience includes prosecuting tort claims for client’s who have experienced excess economic loss or other exceptions to the bar on tort actions provided for under Part IV of The Automobile Accident Insurance Act.

Ryan is an active member of the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association and a former member of the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association’ Board of Governors. Ryan is also a former member of the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association Editorial Committee where he supervised and assisted in the quarterly publication of The Saskatchewan Advocate magazine.

Ryan also had the privilege of participating in the intensive seven-day trial advocacy program presented by the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) at Stanford Law School in the summer of 2018.

Prior to joining the firm, Ryan obtained a Bachelor of Arts, combined Economics and Geography degree from the University of Regina and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Law. Ryan summered and articled with Miller Thomson LLP prior to being called to the bar in 2014.
