Health system transformation and the COVID-19 pandemic have accelerated the advancement of health integration, digital health and virtual technologies, and raise new privacy questions about how personal information is collected and shared. This has been reflected in significant amendments to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), including most recently, Bill 188, the Economic and Fiscal Update Act, 2020. Other important developments include the introduction of Part X (Personal Information) of the Child and Youth Family Services Act on January 1, 2020.
