E. Peter Auvinen

Peter has been the Chair of Miller Thomson since 2019. He has also been a member of Miller Thomson’s Executive Committee since 2013. As the Chair of Miller Thomson, Peter has overseen significant reforms to the Firm’s governance and compensation systems and he has worked with other members of the Executive Committee to materially improve the Firm’s services as a leading business law firm in Canada.

For over 35 years Peter has practiced commercial litigation and insolvency law. He has considerable trial and appellate experience and has represented clients before a variety of tribunals and all levels of courts including the Supreme Court of Canada. Peter is known for his reliable judgment and advice in the dispute resolution context. He will litigate tenaciously and aggressively when required but he will also assist clients in resolving disputes when settlement is the best course of action.

Peter has served as the Honorary Consul for the Government of Finland in Toronto for several years. In this role he has developed significant knowledge concerning bilateral trade and investment between northern European countries and Canada and he has supported numerous companies entering the Canadian marketplace from the Nordic region. Peter also represents the Canadian subsidiaries of companies from northern Europe doing business in Canada.
