Kristina Roberts is passionate about helping to build impactful and sustainable social purpose organizations. She works to understand the needs of her clients from a holistic perspective. Kristina strives to provide valuable legal advice that is practical and accessible. As a member of Miller Thomson’s Social Impact group, Kristina focuses on guiding charities, non-profits, and social enterprises through compliance, governance matters, and operational issues. Kristina provides specialized advice on charitable purposes and activities, collaboration and intermediary arrangements, revenue generation, business activities, social finance, impact investing, granting activities, gift agreements, re-structuring, mergers, and wind-ups. She also assists with incorporations and charitable registration.

Kristina has volunteered as a mentoring lawyer with the River City Venture Clinic at the University of Alberta, and the Law & Business Clinic at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is also involved with the Legal Committee of IntegralOrg, which is a charity that provides education and support to Alberta non-profits. Kristina has been a guest lecturer at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law, speaking about non-profit and charity law; and has presented frequently at Community Foundations of Canada events and webinars.

Kristina is actively involved on the executive of the Canadian Bar Association’s Charities and Not-for-Profit Section; and is currently a member of the Canada Revenue Agency’s Technical Issues Working Group (TIWG), which advises CRA on issues related to the regulation of registered charities and other qualified donees in Canada. Kristina is also the co-editor of Miller Thomson’s social impact newsletter. Through her previous employment with a charitable organization, Kristina spearheaded the development of an interactive online tool designed to help organizations and entrepreneurs select an appropriate legal structure for a social enterprise. Prior to law school, Kristina worked as a project manager at a community investment consulting firm, helping to strengthen funding relationships between corporations and community organizations.
