Prior to law school, Lara obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UBC. Lara’s undergraduate essay, “Trashing the Global South: Power Relations Underpinning the Global Waste Trade” was shortlisted for publication in the UBC Journal of Political Studies. She has a keen interest in labour law and has received four scholarships for her essays on the role of unions in supporting democratic principles, the rule of law, and Truth and Reconciliation.

Throughout her undergraduate and legal studies, Lara taught fitness classes at a local studio and danced professionally for three Vancouver-based professional sports teams: the Vancouver Warriors, BC Lions, and Vancouver Canucks. Lara is an avid baker and her specialty is lemon meringue pie.
