Overview

Scott Turner is part of Miller Thomson’s commercial litigation team. First called to the bar of New York State in 1988, when he was an associate with one of America’s largest law firms, Scott has been practising law for more than 35 years. He brings a wealth of experience to Miller Thomson, where he hopes to continue providing sound legal advice to businesses, organizations and individuals faced with legal challenges in an ever-changing world.

Scott’s practice encompasses a wide variety of disciplines, including contract disputes, insolvency-related litigation, creditors’ remedies, shareholders’ and partners’ disputes, estates litigation, insurance litigation, real estate disputes and professional responsibility. Scott has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada, and also before administrative boards and tribunals and arbitration panels. In addition to appearing as counsel, Scott has acted as a mediator and as an arbitrator in commercial matters, including shareholders’ disputes. Scott has completed the arbitration course of the British Columbia Arbitration and Mediation Institute (BCAMI).

Although he is, first and foremost, a litigator, Scott’s overriding motivation, always, is to help his clients try to resolve their disputes. He has, over the years, settled far more cases than he has taken to trial or final adjudication. No one wants to have to consult with litigation counsel. However, legal disputes happen and, when they do, it’s important to have competent, experienced legal counsel on your side, striving to obtain the best possible outcome in what are often difficult circumstances. Scott is that counsel, and he will always do his utmost for your cause.

Scott is active in educational programs within the profession, and has written papers and given lectures for numerous Continuing Legal Education programs.
