Overview

Vanessa is Red River Métis and a member of the Manitoba Métis Federation.

Vanessa is entering her third year of law school at Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the fall 2024. In her second year, Vanessa attended the ĆELÁṈENEȽ: a field course involving land-based learning and a community project that directly contributes to the revitalization of W̱SÁNEĆ law.

Vanessa is an active member of UBC’s Indigenous Law Students’ Association (ILSA) as the UBC ILSA representative for the Aboriginal Lawyers Forum. She is also an Indigenous Student Mentor to first-year Indigenous law students. During her first year, Vanessa volunteered at UBC’s Law Student’s Legal Advice Program (LSLAP).

Prior to law school, Vanessa worked as a Program Officer with Health Canada. Vanessa obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UBC Okanagan in 2021.

In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys travelling, bird watching, spending time in nature, and going for walks.
