Dealing with Assets Across the Border, Protecting your Family Property and Much More

Miller Thomson’s Private Client Services group and Estate Litigation team are pleased to present a 4-part monthly speaker series on Estate Planning through the Generations, which follows one family at various junctures and explores their relevant estate planning considerations. Loosely based on the Dutton family in the hit show “Yellowstone”, each month we will delve into the estate planning issues and needs of family members as they transition to new life stages.

Part 3: Dealing with Assets Across the Border, Protecting your Family Property and Much More will focus on one of the Dutton family children, who purchased a number of properties while living in the United States. She has recently returned to the family’s ranch in Canada, and has started a family. Although she is settling into her return to Canada, she is not ready to part with her US properties.

Speakers will examine current cross-border issues with US planning, how a domestic contract may be used to protect the legacy of the family business, and topics of interests around the family property.
