Tory Hibbitt maintains a diverse and multi-jurisdictional practice which involves representing healthcare professionals, hospitals, health authorities, and other health industry clients in a range of disputes, including regulatory matters and civil litigation. In addition to her litigation practice, she assists public and private health industry clients to navigate the complexities of relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks, including privacy related matters. Tory is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/C) with expertise in health information privacy. Her varied background in civil litigation has taken her to all levels of provincial court, federal court, and tribunals. Drawing on her broad experience, Tory applies her academic bent when conducting in-depth analyses of complex legal issues and advising on strategy. Whether advocating in disputes or offering advisory services, Tory employs a pragmatic, results-oriented approach to achieve her clients’ objectives.
As a Certified Information Privacy Professional, Tory stays current with the evolving privacy landscape. With a Master of Laws in Medical Law and Ethics, Tory has a keen interest in the intersection between privacy and health care. As a thought leader, she regularly contributes to industry knowledge through insightful articles, publications, teaching, and speaking engagements, making complex legal issues accessible to both her clients and her broader community.
Tory is a member of both the Alberta and Saskatchewan Bars and is actively involved with several legal associations, including the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), where she previously served as Chair of the National Health Law Section, and Chair of the Alberta (South) Young Lawyers Section. As an instructor on the Osgoode Certificate in Privacy Law and Information Management in Health Care program, Tory trains health industry and privacy professionals on key competencies for managing and mitigating risks related to health information privacy. Committed to supporting the next generation of legal professionals, Tory enjoys mentoring law students and junior lawyers both informally and through the CBA Alberta’s Mentor Program.
