Ugo Mbamalu is an associate in Miller Thomson LLP’s Social Impact Group. His practice is devoted to charities and not-for-profits to whom he provides legal advice on a variety of matters including incorporations, charitable registrations, corporate governance, tax and regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining the firm, Ugo worked as a Legal Operations Officer at a logistics and transport company in Toronto, Ontario.
Ugo received his law degree from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria in 2017 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2018. Following his call to the Nigerian Bar, he worked as an associate at two mid-sized business and litigation law firms and was mainly involved in business law, tax advisory and dispute resolution. Thereafter, he moved to Canada and obtained a Masters degree in Canadian Common Law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2021. Ugo joined Miller Thomson as an articling student in 2023 and was called to the Ontario Bar in the same year.
Ugo is committed to servicing charities and not-for-profits, providing legal advice and representation that allows them carry on their charitable activities within and outside of Canada. His practice approach is based on considering the peculiar needs and activities of each client and providing legal services which fit into and help facilitate them.
